Nicosia Turkish Municipality continues to earn the benefits of its
active and versatile foreign relations. With the good connections and
effective attempts of the NTM Foreign Relations Department, a staff
member of the department, attended the European Summer School which was
organized by the Birmingham City Council in England.
Nicosia Turkish Municipality (NTM) continues to earn the benefıts of its
intensive and versatile foreign relations. Because of its memberships
with international establishments, the NTM has close relations with
Municipalities throughout the world and it is thanks to those
connections that the NTM has had the opportunity to send a member of
staff to the European Summer School which was organized by the
Birmingham City Council. As a result of the NTM Foreign Relations
Department’s effective attempts, the Birmingham City Council gave a
scholarship for both the Turkish and Greek Municipalities in Nicosia in
an effort to contribute to the reconciliation of the two communities.
With the opportunity of the scholarship, the NTM Foreign Relations
Department staff Ilkem Tunar undertook “Culture and Creativity” training
for two weeks.

people from all around Europe attended the European Summer School which
took place between August 4-16 and consisted of 8 different specialized
courses. Apart from the NTM Foreign Relations Department staff Ilkem
Tunar; Stavros Italos and Andreas Stavroy also attended the course from
the Nicosia Greek Municipality. The British Council provided the flight
ticket for one person from each side from Cyprus to Birmingham.
Under the cooperation of the Birmingham City Council and Brasshouse
Language School, the trainees took English courses in the morning for 3
hours and took their special courses during the afternoon. The trainees
attended the activities which was orginized by the Birmingham City
Council in order to get to know the city, their culture and history.
At
the end of the course Lord Mayor, Councillor Chauhdry Abdul Rashid JP
organized a cocktail and a certificate ceremony at the City Hall. |
